A Novel Solution to Chronic Nerve Pain

A Novel Solution to Chronic Nerve Pain

Chronic nerve pain remains one of the most complex and costly complications to treat in medicine, often impacting quality of life and life expectancy. For patients with chronic nerve pain, their only resort is often conventional interventions, which only provide partial relief while leading to a host of risks. In this light, Curonix’s Peripheral Nerve Stimulator is a novel alternative that incorporates neuromodulation technology to provide sustainable pain control while minimizing invasive hardware.

Unlike conventional neurostimulators that use implanted batteries, Curonix’s technology was engineered to be externally powered by High-Frequency Electromagnetic Coupling (HF-EMC). In other words, this means smaller implants, reduced surgical complexity and avoided battery replacement procedures. “We’re focused on nerve pain… if patients respond to other conservative methods initially and there isn’t a long-term response then they may be a good candidate for this technology,” explained Victor, a District Sales Manager at Curonix, emphasizing that patient selection remains rooted in evidence-based pathways.

Curonix’s Peripheral Nerve stimulator is particularly relevant for post-surgical pain populations. “First phase around 1–2 weeks… each day the effects are recorded,” Victor described. “If [the] patient responds well to the temporary trial then they are suitable for a longer-term implant under the skin.” This staged process ensures candidates receive permanent implants only when clinically justified. Addressing common concerns, Victor reassured that “placing of the leads should not make the condition worse,” underscoring the safety of the temporary trial.

Further, this system’s accessibility makes it a viable option for patients with various financial statuses. “We are FDA approved, and medicare approved based on inclusion criteria,” Victor noted. The flexibility to reach patient populations who need it the most is a large benefit on this neurostimulator.

Equally important is the device’s compatibility with diagnostic testing. “This device is MRI conditionally safe so patients can receive X-rays, CAT scans, and MRIs as long as manufacturing guidelines are followed,” Victor noted. This safety profile distinguishes the Freedom PNS from other implantable devices, ensuring that patients do not have to choose between pain relief and access to essential imaging technologies.

Beyond the technicalities, Curonix emphasizes close collaboration with existing conditions and comorbidities. “We work very closely with physicians to ensure that patients are suitable for this [technology]”. By combining physician judgement, temporary trial monitoring, and patient feedback. The neurostimulator is a multifaceted responsibility of clinical practice.

Curonix’s Peripheral Nerve Stimulator reflects the future of neuromodulation, externally powered, customizable, and with a wide range of benefits. As Victor mentioned in his closing statements, this technology has the great potential to develop further to treat a wide variety of chronic nerve pain indications.
